Is the Lab Diamonds boom over?

Diamonds on a black background

In 2018 many jewellers were stocking Lab grown diamonds and planned to keep them very much part of their inventory, for the foreseeable.

Lab grown diamonds were envisaged every bit as good as the real thing, but without the price tag. A case of 'a lot more bang for your buck' - this was very attractive for all parties.

However, in recent months jewellers are beginning to order stock on consignment and the 'shine' on a 21st century invention has begun to fade.

Last year lab grown diamond manufacturers flooded the markets with stock, causing a downturn in demand. Prices have dropped considerably and will continue to do so over the next year.

These uncertainties have created an upturn in demand for natural diamonds and we find ourselves in a case of high demand with a smaller supply, increasing the price tag of natural diamonds.

All this doesn't mean demand for lab-grown stones will disappear, these gems will surely still hold appeal for some buyers. Perhaps it is time to purchase something for a snippet and appreciate it's beauty and sparkle.

At YLD, we will continue to offer both natural or Lab grown Diamonds. We happen to love both products and believe the customer has a right to choose whether they want something mined from the earth or something man made with equally as much vibrancy.

As a member of rapaport,

YLD are able to source the best natural diamonds and gemstones, from all across the globe at the best prices possible.

Equally, we work with a established gem manufacturer in the far East who can supply lab grown diamonds at your request.

We include you at every step of the process, sharing images, videos and those vital price negotiations, to find your exact requirements.

Please message with any requests,

Best wishes,

Jewellery Care

Fine Jewellery is delicate and should be cared for accordingly. To extend the life of your jewellery, please follow these care instructions:

  • Take off your items before your daily rituals such as - showering, applying lotion, perfume, exercising, washing dishes, etc.

  • Before bedtime, lay your jewellery out flat on a fabric surface to avoid tangling and/or scratching.

  • To clean your jewellery, use a soft toothbrush with dish soap and gently scrub the metal and diamonds. We do not suggest an ultrasonic cleaner.

  • Do not clean any semi precious gemstones or pearls with chemicals, abrasives, or solvents.
